All tapestries are hand woven. The basic structure comprises a taut (vertical) warp, through which the coloured (horizontal) weft yarns are woven. These completely cover the warp threads resulting in only the coloured yarn being seen when complete.

With each tapestry a drawn 'cartoon' is placed behind the warp. This is used as a guide for the precise placement of the coloured weft yarn which create the image.

The image grows millimetre by millimetre. Small bundles (butterflies) of coloured weft are hand threaded alternately, in front and behind, the taut vertical warp and compacted down. Gradually the tapestry is built, by the precise positioning of this dense coloured weft, as it completely covers the warp.
